How long does it take for trademark registration?
By Definition, Trademark is a word or symbol on a product, that depicts it was created by a particular company. In other words, the Trademark is a mark used for trading, which is an intellectual property created by its owner. (So, it cannot be stolen, or copied).

- Vienna code classification
- Trademark Examination
- Journal publication
- Trademark Registration
Vienna code classification:
This is one of the first steps in registration, which has been taken by the Registry where the trademark comprises a figurative element/logo. The Vienna code is allotted based on the nature of the figurative element/logo. Such figurative elements/logos are codified according to the Vienna Agreement.
Span: One month.
Trademark examination:
when the trademark application assigned to trademark examiner, then the Trademark Application status will be shown as “Marked for Exam”. Here your trademark will face a lot of examination according to the various sections of the Trademarks Act. Accordingly, a report will be issued either accepting the trademark for publication else raising objections.
Span: One month.
Journal Publication:
In this stage trademark will be shown as ‘Accepted & advertised”. So likely it is the last step in trademark registration. In trademark journal all qualified trademarks will be published in open, so anyone can raise an objection in the span of four months.
Span: Four months or above. (Depends on Objections raised)
Trademark Registration:
After four months (During the period of Journal publication) if your trademark won’t face any objections. Your Trademark will be registered, from now on you can use ®.
Note:
- If your Trademark is completely unique and creative, your trademark will be registered in 6-8 months. Else, it will be registered in 2 Years.
- If you want a deceptive trademark to get registered, even after getting registered you will face trademark infringements. So, don’t choose deceptive trademarks, and waste your time.
